Job Summary

Sr. Application Engineer (DevOps, AI) at The Seattle Times seeks an experienced engineer to lead Azure DevOps projects with AI integrations and to strengthen internal application development and DevOps capabilities. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and maintaining internal applications using the Microsoft stack (.NET, C#, SQL) and Python; building APIs for scalable system integrations; collaborating with partners to deliver reliable internal tools; evaluating AI and automation capabilities with Azure AI Services and Microsoft Copilot; building and operating CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions; applying DevOps best practices (source control, automated testing, deployment automation); implementing IAM solutions including MFA and RBAC; participating in a 24x7 on-call rotation; and handling other projects as assigned. Required qualifications emphasize extensive experience with .NET/C#/SQL and Python, API development, systems integration, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, IAM familiarity, SQL dialects, CLI proficiency, and strong problem-solving and collaboration skills. Compensation ranges from $99,200 to $140,000 with comprehensive benefits; role is remote with Puget Sound residency consideration.

Required Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience with Microsoft development stack (.NET, C#, SQL) and Python.
  • Strong DevOps skills with Azure Pipelines or GitHub Actions, Git, and Agile workflows.
  • Demonstrated API development experience.
  • Prior experience as a Systems Analyst working with systems integration preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information management or equivalent demonstrated work experience.
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM) familiarity, including MFA and RBAC.
  • Experience using ANSI SQL and vendor-specific dialects (e.g., T-SQL).
  • Hands-on experience using command-line interfaces for development, automation, deployment, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Experience designing, developing, or operating intelligent agents or agent-based workflows that combine code, tools, APIs, and AI models to accomplish multi-step tasks.
