Sr. Accounting Specialist

Job Summary
Process, review, and approve customer and vendor payments, invoices, sales orders, and purchase orders while ensuring compliance with internal controls. Receive, post customer payments, and lead investigations into complex discrepancies, chargebacks, and escalated account issues. Own account reconciliations, identify errors, and take an active role in month-end close procedures including reporting and documentation. Prepare accounting reports to identify trends and variances, assist with internal and external audits, and recommend process improvements for AP/AR workflows. Serve as a subject matter resource and informal mentor to less experienced staff, handling sensitive financial information with discretion. This role requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles and strong analytical skills to resolve complex issues independently.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 3+ years of accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general accounting experience
- Thorough understanding of accounting principles, AP/AR processes, and internal controls
- Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to research and resolve complex discrepancies independently
- Demonstrated proficiency with financial or accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, ERP systems, or similar); ability to learn new systems quickly
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable communicating with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders
- Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion and confidentiality
- Self-directed with strong time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities
