Sr Accountant, External GAAP Reporting

Job Summary
Collaborate with line of business, legal, enterprise risk management, tax, internal audit, and corporate finance teams to prepare assigned sections of The Hartford's Form 10-K and Form 10-Q SEC filings. Maintain electronic support for assigned disclosures and reports while assisting internal and external auditors, including XBRL preparation and compliance. On a rotational basis, support the Investor Relations team with quarterly earnings call documents, coordinate third-party financial information surveys from organizations such as the U.S. Census Bureau, and serve as implementation lead for process improvement initiatives using WDesk and automation tools. Perform disclosure research to ensure compliance with SEC and U.S. GAAP standards and conduct peer comparison analyses. This role requires a hybrid schedule based in Hartford, CT, with three days in the office (Tuesday through Thursday).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Accounting
- 3+ years experience
- Well-developed communication, organizational and analytical skills
- Superior attention to detail and strong critical thinking skills
- Self-motivated, strong sense of urgency
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and to demonstrate professionalism while interacting with personnel throughout the enterprise
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Must be available for office 3 days a week (Tuesday though Thursday)
Desired Qualifications
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- Insurance industry experience a plus
- Microsoft CoPilot a plus
- experience with SharePoint, CognosTM1, WDesk, and XBRL a plus
