Job Summary
Develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and database objects while contributing to relational architecture for new and existing systems. Troubleshoot database-related issues, resolve production problems, and support application performance using SQL profiling and query optimization. Develop and test ETL processes, monitor database security and integrity, and collaborate with Business Analysts to understand requirements. Participate in all phases of the SDLC, including development, testing, and deployment, while mentoring junior developers and adhering to team standards. This permanent hybrid role in Pretoria or Somerset West offers 5-10 years of experience in a fintech environment focused on secure financial solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology or Computer/Engineering/Mathematical Sciences
- Matric with at least 5-10 years relevant experience as a SQL developer as part of a team in a software development environment
- 5-10 years relevant experience as a SQL developer as part of a team in a software development environment, including the role of leading Developer within a team
- Ability to work in a team environment: Follow mentorship/provide team leader mentorship, collaborate on a common (UML) design model
- A good understanding of the SDLC process, tools and techniques specifically as applied to software development methodology
- Knowledge of security vulnerabilities and working impact on solutions
- Understanding of SQL Server Administration
- SQL OLTP development
- SQL Query optimisation
- SQL Query analysis
- Database object design
- Database design principles
- Good XML manipulation skills in XQuery
- Basic understanding of front-end languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Ability to deliver production quality software by e.g. paying attention to detail, doing extensive unit testing and supporting quality testing phases
- Knowledge and experience of the following toolsets: SQL Server Management Studio 2012 upwards, SQL profiler
- Solid understanding of data integrity and security best practices
- Hands-on experience in Exception Handling and Troubleshooting
- Troubleshooting slow-running queries, Profiling Performance Issues
- Ability to stay within the scope, timelines and constraints of the project and, if not possible, to raise/negotiate alternatives
Desired Qualifications
- Relevant Microsoft Certification (SQL developer/Azure)
- Experience working with security-sensitive data
- XML and JSON structures
- Some knowledge of cloud services like Azure, AWS
