Job Summary
Avionics Software Intern at Blue Origin will work with engineering teams on projects across avionics hardware and software for programs from orbital rockets to moon landers. Responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, and maintaining real-time embedded software for launch vehicle systems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, participating in the full software lifecycle (requirements analysis, implementation, verification, documentation, system integration), and creating tools to support build, debugging, testing, deployment, and automation. Candidates should code primarily in C, C++, and Python and demonstrate hands-on experience through coursework or projects, with mentorship and opportunities to learn across the organization. Housing and relocation support are offered, and interns are expected to contribute to safety, reliability, and quality in delivered software. Hourly compensation is $32.00, with on-site work at assigned locations; applicants must be able to transition to full-time internship commitments for at least 15 weeks and meet U.S. citizenship or residency requirements as described.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with at least one semester or quarter of school remaining after the internship
- Completed at least one year of full-time coursework post high school graduation (sophomore standing)
- Available to work full time for a minimum of 15 weeks while not concurrently enrolled in coursework
- Strong written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong interest in Blue's mission
- Hands-on project experience or coursework demonstrating software development and problem solving
- Experience with at least one of C, C++, or Python
- Exposure to software verification, testing, or automated testing
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs
- Self-driven with the ability to seek requirements with minimal direction
- Exposure to CI/CD
- Additional: ARINC Standards, UML/SW Design
