Job Summary
Splicer II performs installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks with minimal supervision, including splicing, testing, and certification of fiber networks, installation/configuration of network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls), field troubleshooting, OTDR testing, and on-site customer support. The role requires independent field work, mentorship of Splicer I, site surveys, thorough documentation, adherence to safety, and occasional travel to job sites. Based in Irvine, CA with travel to sites; non-exempt; compensation $28-$30/hr plus company benefits.
Required Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in telecommunications, fiber optic splicing, network installation, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic splicing techniques and equipment
- Solid familiarity with optical fibers, connectors, and splice closures
- Proficiency in fiber mapping and schematic reading
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Proficiency in using OTDRs, fusion splicers, and other fiber optic testing tools
- Working understanding of telecommunication infrastructure and networking concepts
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in the field
- Ability to work outdoors and in various weather conditions
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
- Valid state driver's license, good driving record, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance
- Certification in fiber optics (e.g., CFOT) preferred
