Job Summary
Assess and respond to emotional or spiritual needs for patients, residents, clients, their families, and staff. Provide spiritual care within an interprofessional team, collaborating with healthcare professionals and community groups on educational, clinical, and research initiatives. Mentor students through clinical consultations and maintain partnerships with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care and religious representatives. Apply specialized knowledge of pastoral counseling theory to assist with contextual decision-making and foster mutual understanding between patients, families, and the care team. Participate in research initiatives, promote best practices, and utilize relevant software for charting and quality assurance. Adhere to the Ministry of Health framework and code of ethics while actively supporting Indigenous Cultural Safety and equity principles.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree with relevant theological/spiritual studies from a recognized institution accredited by the Association of Theological Schools or an institution with equivalent standing
- Completion of two basic, and two advanced units, of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in a health care setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Valid certification with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) as a Specialist or a commitment to certify within 2 years of hiring
- Maintains an active, ongoing, accountable relationship with a recognized denomination or faith group
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
- Works within the scope of practice articulated in the Ministry of Health document- Spiritual Health - A Framework for British Columbia's Spiritual Care Professionals and adheres to the code of ethics referenced therein
