Job Summary
Draft speeches, remarks, talking points, briefing materials, internal messages, video scripts, op-eds, statements, quotes, and other written materials for the Police Commissioner and department leadership; support preparation for press conferences, public events, ceremonies, internal meetings, legislative hearings, and media engagements; translate complex public safety issues, operational updates, crime trends, policy initiatives, and department priorities into clear, accurate, and compelling language; work with NYPD bureaus to gather information, verify facts, and ensure materials reflect the department’s work; assist with editing and proofreading executive communications for clarity, tone, accuracy, grammar, and consistency; ensure communications align with NYPD’s mission, standards, and priorities; track public safety issues and department initiatives to support timely executive communications; perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2+ years’ experience in speechwriting or journalism
