Job Summary
Implement speech and language therapy activities as directed by a supervising licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) while providing direct services to students in individual and small group settings. Follow and support Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and therapy goals, then collect data and document student progress toward those objectives. Assist the SLP with preparing therapy materials and activities, maintain accurate service logs, and support classroom carryover of communication strategies. Collaborate with teachers and staff to reinforce student goals and participate in team meetings as appropriate. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policies. This role requires direct supervision by a licensed SLP who is responsible for all evaluations, eligibility determinations, and IEP development. Bilingual (Spanish) skills are preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or related field
- Valid SLPA license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
- Knowledge of speech and language development and disorders
- Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed SLP
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of articulation, language, fluency, and voice disorders
- Ability to follow treatment plans and adapt activities as directed
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families
- May involve light lifting and assisting students as needed
Desired Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish) skills preferred
- Experience working in school-based settings
- Familiarity with special education processes and IEP implementation
- Experience with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) tools
