Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of a certified Speech-Language Pathologist, the SLPA works with students with speech-language disorders and other disabilities requiring specially designed instruction. Duties include implementing treatment plans, documenting performance, programming AAC devices, assisting with screenings and assessments, providing in-service education to staff, preparing instructional materials, scheduling, and collaborating with teachers. Requires an Associate’s Degree in the field or equivalent coursework, understanding of typical language development, and the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; supervision varies, with initial higher supervision and ongoing weekly supervision after 90 days. Terms of employment and salary determined by the Norwich Board of Education.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in speech-language pathology/communication disorders or post-secondary equivalent coursework
- Understanding of typical childhood development
- Competency in skills required for a SLP-A
- Experience in school setting preferred
- Bilingual preferred
- Good communication with students, coworkers, administrators
- ASHA Code of Ethics adherence
