Job Summary
Provide speech-language intervention services to students as prescribed in Individualized Education Programs and treatment plans. Implement therapeutic activities and instructional strategies designed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist to address communication needs, including direct activities for pre-language skills, oral-motor control, and vocalization. Collect, record, and maintain accurate data regarding student performance while preparing therapy materials and equipment. Support the implementation of augmentative and alternative communication systems and assist with screenings and observations. Reinforce communication skills within classroom settings through collaboration with teachers and maintain complete service documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements. Participate in IEP meetings when requested and communicate professionally with staff, parents, and administrators. Perform duties only within the authorized scope of practice under supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an Associate's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assisting from an accredited institution of higher learning, community college, or equivalent program
- Evidence of successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution as well as evidence of successful completion of courses developed by the North Carolina Department of Community Colleges
- Assistants must achieve a passing score on a competency test approved by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists
- Registration as an assistant with the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists
