Job Summary
Deliver preschool speech and language assessment and treatment for autistic children and their families across clinical sites and via telepractice. Implement intensive services, focused interventions, and early intervention models including the Early Start Denver Model and Pivotal Response Treatment. Provide caregiver training, coach families on alternative and augmentative communication systems, and coordinate care within interprofessional clinical teams. Maintain flexibility for evening and weekend services and travel throughout Nova Scotia for education and meetings. Demonstrate commitment to family-centered care and prevention of communication disorders.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Nova Scotia College of Audiologists & Speech-Language Pathologists (NSCASLP) licensure or eligible for licensure
- Effective communication skills, including proficiency in written and spoken English
- Flexibility in work schedule to provide evening/weekend services
- Flexibility to travel on occasion to attend continuing education, events and/or meetings
- Candidates will have to demonstrate current immunization and/or boosters at the end of the probationary period
- Experience with provision of preschool speech and language assessment and treatment
- Familiarity with a variety of service delivery options for pediatric caseloads
- Knowledge of discipline specific best practices in assessment and early intervention of young children with developmental disabilities, specifically those with autism
- Demonstrated commitment to family-centered care
- Flexibility to travel throughout NS on a regular basis
- Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
- 1 year of experience with autistic preschoolers
- 1 year of clinical experience within the last 5 years with provision of alternative and augmentative communication systems
- Experience with off-site/home-based service delivery model
- Experience working with interprofessional clinical teams and/or working with supportive personnel
- Recent experience with autism assessment and treatment
- Experience with provision of services via telepractice
- Experience providing caregiver training and/or coaching
- Experience in provision of alternative and augmentative communication systems
- Ability to communicate in multiple languages in a clinical setting
- Training and knowledge of Pivotal Response Treatment and Picture Exchange Communication System
- Lived experience with a communication difference
- Able to start immediately
