Job Summary
Conduct evaluations and develop effective treatment plans to restore, maintain, and prevent resident function decline by administering medically prescribed speech-language pathology. Consult physicians, residents, and families to establish goals and direct treatments provided by aides, while assisting residents in achieving objectives through progress tracking and equipment modifications. Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team for discharge planning and recommend outpatient or home health follow-up programs. Ensure all resident care services are accurately documented according to established procedures. Work Monday through Friday with a variable schedule, earning $39/hr and up based on experience.
Required Qualifications
- Certificate of, or eligibility for, Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech, Language, and Hearing Association
- Currently licensed to practice as a speech-pathologist in the State of Kansas
- Good communications skills, including but not limited to effective reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills
- Fluent understanding of English
- Empathetic approach to the elderly
- Ability to work in a team setting with residents, relatives, staff, and others
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job: Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
- Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures
- Ability to stoop by bending spine at the waist downward and forward
- Ability to kneel on the knee to come to a rest
- Ability to climb stairs and ramps, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms
- Ability to crouch downward and forward by bending leg and spine
- Ability to reach hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
- Ability to push forward, downward or outward
- Ability to lift objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position
- Ability to walk to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another
- Ability to use fingers with whole hand or arm such as picking, pinching or typing
- Ability to grasp by applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm
- Ability to feel attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips
- Ability to talk to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word accurately, loudly, and/or quickly
- Ability to hear sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication
- Ability to assist in transferring residents weighing up to 250 lbs
