Job Summary
Speech Language Pathologist in Acute Care provides diagnostic evaluations and treatment for patients with speech-language and/or swallowing disorders due to neurogenic or surgical etiologies. Develops therapy modalities based on severity, establishes goals, and determines appropriate progression and discontinuation. Provides esophageal and tracheoesophageal voice training, training in prosthetic devices, and conducts video fluorography and invasive puncture evaluations when indicated. Maintains documentation and communicates progress to referral sources, coordinates follow-up care, and collaborates with interdepartmental rehabilitation team. Maintains knowledge of current trends in the field and may supervise graduate students during clinical practicum. Requires Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and 1-2 years of related experience; ASHA certification and DC SP-L licensure within 90 days.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- 1-2 years of progressively more responsible job-related experience
- ASHA - American Speech Language Hearing Association
- SP-L - Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in the District of Columbia within 90 Days
