Job Summary
Public school Speech-Language Pathologists provide language, articulation, fluency, and voice therapy to general and special education students. Responsibilities include assessment and diagnosis of speech, language, and voice impairments; development of individualized therapy programs; collaboration with classroom staff to implement therapy in daily activities; guiding teachers in observation and referral of speech-language concerns; providing information, support, and counseling to parents and families; and supervising students. Requires applying current research and theory to instructional programs and maintaining effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in speech and language pathology
- Minimum of 60 semester hours of academic credit in normal aspects of human communication, development and clinical techniques for evaluation and management of speech and language disorders
- Minimum of 300 hours of supervised practicum experience with persons who present a variety of communication disorders, 150 hours at graduate level
- Certification as Speech Pathologist by South Carolina Department of Education
