Job Summary
Monitor and conduct the admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) process for assigned students. Collaborate with parents, staff, and the ARD Committee to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and implement lesson plans with accommodations for diverse learning styles. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement, manage student behavior and medical care, and supervise students throughout the school day, including lunchroom and playground duty. Present subject matter using varied instructional techniques and technology while maintaining open communication with families and colleagues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments
- Valid Texas ESL Supplemental Certificate
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
- Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
- Effective communication skills
- One year student teaching or approved internship
- Must be able to lift 45 pounds or more
- Must be able to physically restrain students
- Must be able to assist non-ambulatory students
- Must be able to lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment
- Must be able to work prolonged or irregular hours
- Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress
- Must be able to comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers
