Job Summary
Assist students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher. Provide pre-teaching instruction, support during teacher-directed lessons, monitor students during independent/group activities, prepare curriculum materials, monitor safety, implement and reinforce classroom programs and behavioral strategies, collect data on student progress, and support students with personal care/health needs. Collaborate with staff to promote inclusion and dignity, and support students who may have physical limitations. Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills required; DOJ background check required; bachelor's degree preferred. This paraprofessional role focuses on enabling successful participation and learning for students with disabilities within an inclusive classroom setting.
Required Qualifications
- Work experience in a school setting with students
- Must pass a DOJ background check
- Ability to create and follow through with individualized professional development plan
- High level of communication skills, both written and oral
- Strong initiative and problem-solving abilities
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Education: BA Degree preferred, but not absolutely necessary
- Experience working with students with disabilities preferred
