Job Summary
Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis, unpack and route them to staging areas, and accurately identify and label each sample. Pack and ship specimens to proper testing facilities while meeting department activity and production goals. Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples and perform data entry of patient information accurately and timely. Resolve and document any problem specimens encountered during the process. Work independently in a fast-paced production environment, maintaining high attention to detail and prioritizing tasks to meet established turn-around times.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Comfortability with handling biological specimens
- Ability to accurately identify specimens
- Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
- Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around times
- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Desired Qualifications
- 3 months or more of specimen processing experience
- 3 months or more of medical or laboratory experience
