Job Summary

Specialty Pharmacist provides high-touch pharmaceutical care to patients with chronic disease states and deals exclusively with medications and pharmaceuticals that are high in costs, require special handling, are subject to limited or restricted distribution, require ongoing assessment, treat rare disease, or require active monitoring of side effects. The role emphasizes patient management, medication adherence, and collaboration with the health-care team. The incumbent supports URAC/ACHC Accreditation Standards, uses metrics to optimize patient care and adherence, and participates in development of new programs and scholarly activities. Responsibilities span Intake (referrals, benefits investigation, payor coverage for specialty drugs, patient financial assistance), Clinical Management (care coordination, data assessment, therapy optimization, adherence promotion), Fulfillment (processing and distribution of referrals, inventory, billing), and Outcomes (data analysis to evaluate pharmacoeconomic impact). The position requires overseeing pharmacy operations to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory rules, training staff, supervising technicians, providing medication counseling, ensuring safe dispensing, and collaborating with leadership on program development, policy implementation, immunizations, public health activities, and on-call duties. The department emphasizes comprehensive medication reviews, pharmacokinetic consultations, adverse event monitoring, and participation in clinical and operational initiatives while maintaining HIPAA compliance and ongoing professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduated from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy (required)
  • Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) Pharmacy Residency or two (2) years of relevant work experience with specialty medications, specialty disease management programs, Oncology, REMS, and LDD programs (required)
  • Post-Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2) Pharmacy Residency (preferred)
  • Licensed or license eligible as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky (required)
  • Current Certified Specialty Pharmacy (CSP) Board Certification by SPCB or Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification or within three (3) years from date of hire (required)
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire (required)
  • Current certification in Immunization Delivery or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire (required)
  • Current certification in Medication Therapy Management or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire (required)
  • Education: Graduated from ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy (required)
