Job Summary

Instruct assigned clay and ceramics classes for youth and adults, developing lesson plans and managing curriculum based on program objectives. Oversee participant safety, comfort, and progress while addressing risk management, accidents, and special needs inclusion. Collaborate with management to schedule classes, communicate facility needs, and handle equipment setup, cleanup, and storage. Demonstrate competency in wheel throwing, hand building, sculpture, glazing, and firing techniques within a safe, inclusive environment. Works under the Arts and Enrichment Supervisor with occasional weekend and holiday hours.

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of professional level experience in area of specialty area
  • Some teaching experience
  • Any satisfactory combination of experience and training
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification
  • Valid Oregon driver's license
  • Acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy
  • Ability to walk and stand for sustained period of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Ability to push, pull, and kneel
  • Ability to store, set-up, and clean-up equipment and supplies
  • Ability to handle large crowds
  • Ability to handle uncooperative or difficult individuals
  • Ability to handle exposure to illness
  • Ability to handle periods of continuous demand
  • Ability to exercise normal mental and visual attention
  • Ability to work under the supervision of the Arts and Enrichment Supervisor
  • Ability to exercise supervision of any volunteer classroom assistants
  • Ability to act as a mandatory reporter
  • Ability to comply with mandatory reporting guidelines
  • Ability to manage accidents and incidents according to procedures
  • Ability to address program specific risk management/safety issues
  • Ability to facilitate inclusion of special needs participants in program
  • Ability to develop rapport with participants
  • Ability to respond to questions, concerns, etc.
  • Ability to oversee the safety, comfort and progress of participants
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement curriculum based upon overall program objectives and guidelines
  • Ability to instruct assigned classes, programs and activities
  • Strong Knowledge of recreational activity for which providing instruction and/or supervision
  • Strong Knowledge of theory, principle and practices for specialized area
  • Strong Knowledge of curriculum and effective teaching methods for area of assignment
  • Skill and Ability to demonstrate competency in specialized area
  • Skill and Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people
  • Skill and Ability to effectively prepare and present lessons to a variety of audiences taking into consideration age, abilities and levels
  • Skill and Ability to effectively handle disruptions, conflicts, and responding to problems addressing customer service concerns, and emergency situations as they arise
  • Skill and Ability to work cooperatively with others and create a positive, constructive relationship with staff and customers
  • Ability to obtain within 30 days of hire a valid First Aid/CPR certification
  • Ability to obtain valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy
