Job Summary
Provide mentorship and support to clients through personal lived experience to build skills in goal setting and problem solving. Facilitate counseling and activities for clients in recovery from substance use disorders in individual or group settings. Help clients coordinate and navigate critical integrated services including healthcare, housing assistance, and behavioral health. Transport and escort clients to scheduled appointments at Coalition properties and elsewhere as needed. Perform ongoing client outreach within the community to monitor needs that are recovery-oriented. Ensure timely and accurate recording of all clinical and non-clinical services in the EHR. Work Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday from 3pm to 11:30pm with frequent interpersonal interactions in diverse settings.
Required Qualifications
- Current Colorado Peer and Family Specialist certification through the Colorado Providers Association (COPA)
- Basic Life Support Certification
- Colorado driver's license
- Prior peer mentoring experience serving individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges and/or homelessness
- Must be a person with lived experience including substance use disorders, homelessness support services, and/or mental health challenges with prior and/or ongoing recovery activity
- Must be able to read computer screens and printed documents
- Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with employees and others
- Must be able to stand/walk
- Must be able to climb/stoop/kneel
- Must be able to lift/pull/push
- Must be able to write, type and use telephones, cellphone and online phone
- Must be able to access and interpret information from computer screens and printed materials
- Must be able to communicate effectively with others
- Must be able to remain calm, think clearly, and apply sound judgement in high-pressure situations
- Must be able to move throughout buildings & community sites to interact with clients, staff, and community partners
- Must be able to move equipment and/or client belongings weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to travel within the Denver metro area
- Must be able to work Sunday - Thursday 3pm - 11:30pm or Tuesday - Saturday 3pm - 11:30pm
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions, including snow, extreme cold, hot, and other potentially severe conditions
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others
- Must be able to recognize professional boundaries and identify potential conflicts of interests to maintain ethical standards in interactions with clients, coworkers, and stakeholders
- Must be able to actively advocate for the needs & rights of individuals/families to ensure access to necessary services, resources, and support systems identified by the clients they are serving
- Must be able to demonstrate awareness and continuously seek to learn & apply inclusive language that respects diverse identities, backgrounds, and experiences
- Must be able to collaborate cross-departmentally with other Coalition Peer Specialists to grow & contribute to the success of program objectives, culture, & a positive working environment
- Must be able to adhere to all state, county, and organization policies/laws regarding mandatory reporting
- Must be able to effectively interface and utilize technology to complete work
- Must be able to engage in meaningful & authentic interactions through active listening, trauma-informed care, and empathy that promote trust
- Must be able to use lived experience, ability to role-model recovery
- Must be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of confidentiality protocols & adhere to privacy laws/organizational policies regarding sensitive information
