Job Summary
Specialist Clinician sought to provide child-centred assessments and evidence-based interventions for tamariki who have engaged in harmful or concerning sexual behaviour. Responsibilities include comprehensive assessments, delivering tailored interventions, collaborating with whānau, schools and professionals to create safe, nurturing environments, contributing to safety planning and risk management, maintaining accurate client records, and participating in reflective clinical review processes. The role emphasises upholding mana and dignity, culturally responsive practice rooted in Te Ao Māori values, and ongoing professional development. The successful candidate will be registered in psychology, counselling, social work, or a related mental-health discipline, with experience or strong interest in trauma-informed approaches to tamariki and safeguarding practices. The position is based in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand with in-person work expectations; visa sponsorship is not available.
Required Qualifications
- A recognised qualification in psychology, counselling, social work, or a related mental health discipline, with current professional registration (e.g. NZ Psychologists Board, NZAC, SWRB)
- Experience (or a strong interest) in working with tamariki who display harmful or concerning sexual behaviours, ideally within a trauma-informed framework
- Sound understanding of child protection, safeguarding, and risk assessment
- Ability to balance therapeutic engagement with accountability and safety
- Strong skills in working with whānau and building collaborative, culturally responsive relationships
