Job Summary
The Behavior Intervention Specialist role supports students and staff by implementing evidence-based behavioral interventions to increase student success in the general education environment. The position collaborates with teachers, counselors, Mental Health Professionals (MHPs), administrators, and other support staff to strengthen Tier 1 classroom practices, develop targeted behavioral supports, and build staff capacity to address behavioral needs. Within the MTSS framework, the specialist assists with identification, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of interventions, emphasizing proactive, data-informed decision-making and the development of sustainable systems to improve outcomes and classroom environments. Responsibilities include coaching teachers, using Panorama to document interventions and progress, developing behavioral intervention plans, supporting self-regulation and social-emotional skills, analyzing data for effectiveness, conducting observations, and contributing to school-wide behavior support initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Missouri educator certificate (teacher, counselor, psychological examiner, etc.)
- Proven record of effectiveness in supporting student learning, leadership, and/or social-emotional development
- Experience with MTSS, behavior intervention, restorative and trauma-informed practices, de-escalation strategies, data analysis, Panorama, and related frameworks
- Ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, Mental Health Professionals (MHPs), administrators, and other support staff
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret behavioral data to assess intervention effectiveness and recommend adjustments
- Experience providing coaching, feedback, and resources to teachers to strengthen classroom management and student outcomes
- Ability to document interventions, progress monitoring data, fidelity, and student outcomes using Panorama
- Ability to deliver direct support to students and help develop self-regulation and replacement behavior skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to maintain confidential information
- Commitment to MTSS and school-wide behavior support systems alignment
- Willingness to perform other duties as assigned
- Appointment for a period not to exceed one year; twelve-month basis
