Job Summary
Patrol university property in a vehicle, on a bicycle, or on foot to enforce laws, provide security, and control traffic. Interact daily with the campus community to identify safety and criminal problems while proactively contributing to the community policing program. Investigate traffic accidents, prepare detailed reports, and respond to all emergency and non-emergency radio calls. Conduct student safety training, including fire drills and disaster preparedness, and perform physical security checks of campus facilities. Observe and report suspicious activities, ensure unauthorized persons leave campus, and enforce university policies alongside state and federal laws. Assist Student Affairs and Residence Life personnel, provide on-campus escorts, and testify in court as necessary.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 15 units of college level education
- California P.O.S.T. Certified Basic Police Academy Certificate of Completion (within last 3 years)
- Level III/II Reserve Officer Certification
- Eligibility to attend a P.O.S.T. Certified Police Academy upon selection
- Honorably Retired Peace Officer from a California agency
- Possession of or eligibility to obtain a BSIS armed guard card
- At least 21 years of age at time of appointment
- Current valid CA driver's license
- Free of any Felony convictions
- In agreement with the purpose and mission of University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students
- Must be in good physical condition
- Ability to walk long distances, bicycle, run, climb, stoop, bend, stand for long periods of time and lift heavy objects (50 lbs.) over head
- Hearing and speaking demands
- Physical strength to restrain, control and handcuff a combative person
- Ability to adjust to varied work shifts
- Ability to read a computer screen, computer-generated reports, and other forms of written documentation
- Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel
Desired Qualifications
- Previous college and/or university campus safety/security/law enforcement experience
- Equivalent on the job experience
