Special Needs Ministry Coordinator

Job Summary
Special Needs Ministry Coordinator needed to serve children and adults with special needs and families in weekend ministry environments. Lead and develop a Christ-centered volunteer team, equip volunteers with inclusive care practices, partner across ministries to ensure inclusive environments, adapt gospel-centered lessons to diverse abilities, oversee buddy program and classroom support, communicate with volunteers and families, and plan events (including respite events and inclusive VBS). Requires 2–3 years of relevant experience, strong organizational and leadership abilities, and a heart for discipleship and inclusion. 20 hours per week, part-time, non-exempt, in Scottsdale, AZ. Must maintain confidentiality and engage families with care and support during weekend services and major church events.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience working with individuals with special needs (church, school, nonprofit, or therapeutic setting)
- Experience in volunteer leadership, team development, or ministry coordination strongly preferred
- Knowledge & Skills: Working knowledge of disabilities (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, sensory processing, developmental delays, physical disabilities)
- Ability to develop and implement individualized support strategies and inclusive environments
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail
- Effective communication skills with both children and adults, including parents/caregivers
- Ability to train, equip, and lead volunteers with varying levels of experience
- Basic understanding of safety protocols, behavior management, and de-escalation techniques
- Certifications or additional training in special needs care, behavioral therapy, or inclusion practices (preferred)
- Experience building or growing a special needs ministry (preferred)
- Familiarity with church management systems and volunteer scheduling tools (preferred)
