Special Inspector / Soils Representative

Job Summary
Conduct field inspection and testing services at active project sites, including reinforcing steel, concrete placement, pre-stressed concrete, structural steel bolting, welding, and fireproofing inspections. Operate a nuclear density gauge for in-place compaction and moisture testing during earthworks, grading, utility backfill, and street construction when structural inspection scope is light. Document inspections, soil testing, sampling, and daily field results using company-provided Surface/Tablet technology while maintaining a good driving record and transporting up to 50 lbs. This role requires ACI and ICC certifications and offers opportunities to expand into structural masonry, wood framing, SWPPP, and non-destructive testing. Daily vehicle reimbursement is provided.
Required Qualifications

- High School/GED required
- Valid Driver's License
- Nuclear Density Gauge Certification (will train/certify if needed)
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Level I
- ICC Reinforced Concrete
- ICC Pre-Stressed Concrete
- ICC Structural Steel and High Strength Bolting
- ICC Structural Welding
- ICC Fireproofing
- LA County Deputy Inspector (preferred)
- City of LA Deputy Inspector (preferred)
- Other ACI, ICC, DSA, NDT, or AWS/CWI Certifications (a plus)
- Proactive problem solver with a proven track record of dependability
- Keen attention to detail and well-developed interpersonal skills (to effectively communicate and collaborate with clients, subcontractors, city agents, and project managers)
- Versatility and willingness to perform both structural inspections and geotechnical soil testing based on project needs
- Must be willing to obtain additional certifications (ICC, ACI, AWS/CWI, NDT, SWPPP)
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and diverse environment
- Must work well as part of a team while remaining resourceful when working independently in the field
- Enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with others for the success of the company
- Good understanding of the overall construction industry and field site operations
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, plus other computer software applications for data collection, data entry, and time/expense entry
Desired Qualifications
- College coursework in Earth Sciences, Geology, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management (a plus)
