Job Summary
Special Education Teacher responsible for explicit, systematic, and multi-sensory reading instruction using Orton-Gillingham methodologies; provides individualized and small-group tutoring to students with dyslexia and learning disabilities; aligns instruction with IEP goals and accommodations; conducts progress monitoring and maintains instructional records; collaborates with special education and general education staff, communicates with families, adapts materials for diverse learners, reinforces phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, fluency, and comprehension; participates in IEP meetings and team collaborations in a school or tutoring setting, typically 3-5 hours per week over 6 weeks.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or related field
- Certification or formal training in the Orton-Gillingham approach (e.g., Associate, Certified, or equivalent)
- Experience working with students with learning disabilities, particularly in reading
- Knowledge of dyslexia and evidence-based literacy instruction
- Strong data collection and progress monitoring skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
