Job Summary
Special Education Teacher role at Uncommon Schools focuses on developing and monitoring accommodations for students with special needs, collaborating with families and Special Education teams to develop 504 plans and IEPs, and delivering differentiated instruction (pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one) to support academic and social-emotional development. You will partner with general education teachers, leaders, and families to analyze student work and write goals for IEPs, participate in weekly school-wide meetings, and engage in practice-based professional development and mentorship while aligning with NJ certification requirements. The role emphasizes inclusive instruction, data-driven planning, and strong collaboration to close achievement gaps in urban K-12 settings.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NJ state certification eligibility requirements (a final undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduates on or after 9/1/16, or 2.75 if you graduated prior to 9/1/16)
- All instructional staff are required to become certified in the state of New Jersey within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- Teacher certification is not a prerequisite for consideration at Uncommon Schools in the state of NJ
- 1-2 years experience preferred in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities
