Job Summary
Special Education Teacher at Uncommon Schools to support K-12 students in urban schools by developing and monitoring accommodations and IEPs (504 plans), collaborating with families and special education teams, delivering differentiated instruction through pull-out/push-in/small group/one-on-one formats, and fostering an inclusive, supportive classroom culture. Responsibilities include analyzing student work and assessments, writing goals for IEPs, maintaining compliance, engaging in weekly meetings, partnering with grade-level teams to set academic goals, and participating in ongoing professional development, mentorship, and coaching. A demonstrated commitment to students’ social-emotional and academic development and an enthusiasm for collaboration with internal and external partners are required. Required experience: 1-2 years in impacting urban K-12 students; academic expertise in Special Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM, or related fields. Starting compensation ranges from $56,000 to $80,000, with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for development. All instructional staff must become certified in New Jersey within a reasonable period after starting employment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NJ state certification eligibility requirements (a final undergraduate or graduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduates on or after 9/1/16, or 2.75 if you graduated prior to 9/1/16) and must become certified in New Jersey within a reasonable period after beginning employment
