Job Summary
Special Education Teacher at Uncommon Schools responsible for developing and monitoring accommodations for students with special needs; collaborate with families and Special Education teams to develop 504 plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs); differentiate instruction and deliver inclusive curriculum; provide pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one instruction; build positive relationships with students and families; participate in weekly school-wide meetings; contribute to setting academic goals and sharing instructional strategies; engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching; maintain compliance with NY state certification eligibility requirements and work toward certification after beginning employment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Certification is not required to be hired at Uncommon, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enrollment in a teacher preparation program and maintaining a 2.5 GPA or higher during employment if you do not have a degree in education
- Must become certified in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academic development
- Interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred)
- Academic expertise in Special Education, the Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM, or related fields of study
- Prior to start, bachelor's degree required
