Job Summary

Oversee programming for students in substantially separate and/or general education settings while providing specialized instruction aligned with Common Core standards and district curriculum maps. Manage a continuous caseload by developing and implementing Individual Education Programs (IEPs), administering standardized evaluations, and ensuring consistent delivery of documented accommodations. Collaborate with paraprofessionals, classroom support teams, and parents to monitor student progress, develop data-taking mechanisms, and embed social-emotional learning strategies into lesson planning. Modify instructional materials to meet specific student needs and assist with Activity of Daily Living skills as required. Work within a 185-day school year, with salaries determined by the Salem Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement and benefits including Group Insurance Commission coverage.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Masters Degree
  • Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Special Education
  • Safety Care trained
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
  • Must be physically capable of and willing to engage in restraint, bending, and lifting as required to meet unique student needs
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters Degree preferred
  • Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in Special Education (can be Moderate Disabiliites or Severe (preferred))
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (Required within 1-year of start date)
  • Safety Care trained or willing to be a trained (District Provides)
  • Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
  • Must be physically capable of and willing to engage in restraint, bending, and lifting as required to meet unique student needs
  • Second language (Spanish and/or Portuguese) proficiency a plus
