Job Summary
Assess individual student needs and establish measurable goals for visually impaired preschoolers. Design, implement, and monitor Individual Education Programs (IEPs) while tracking progress data and maintaining accurate records. Provide appropriate materials, train staff and family members, and submit timely reports. Communicate regularly with parents, school personnel, and external agencies. Establish regular meeting schedules with students and attend VI staff and IEP meetings. Perform Functional Vision and Learning Media assessments and interpret eye medical reports. Adapt classroom environments and activities to support learning. Drive automotive equipment as required. Work Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends in Cary, NC.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations and school laws and policies related to special education services
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of braille, including Unified English Braille (UEB)
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google apps
- Considerable knowledge in the areas of Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC)
- Effective skills to promote socialization between and connect the school community
- Ability to provide instruction for K-12 on common core and extended content curriculum
- Ability to provide instruction using various communication modes
- Ability to develop and progress monitor the Individual Education Programs (IEPs) of students
- Ability to manage classroom activities in coordination with classroom staff
- Ability to adapt the classroom environment, activities, and materials
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback

- Ability to provide a structured and organized learning environment
- Ability to perform Functional Vision and Learning Media assessments
- Ability to interpret eye medical reports as related to educational environments
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public
- Bachelor's degree from regionally accredited college or university in Special Education or related field
- Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in Visually Impaired
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements
- Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)
- Position is not eligible for hybrid telework workweek
