Special Education Teacher - Severe License

Job Summary

Provide instruction to students using communication devices, wheelchairs, and specialized equipment while developing functional academics, life skills, and social abilities. Design, deliver, and adapt curriculum with a team to meet unique needs, collaboratively developing and implementing IEPs and interventions. Conduct assessments for re-evaluations, establish data systems, and supervise paraeducators. Communicate with families, districts, and community agencies. Participate in required trainings and administer statewide assessments. This role supports AVC's REACH Program, serving 5-7 students with severe cognitive and physical needs in a collaborative classroom environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Licensed or working toward licensure from MA DESE in Moderate or Severe (preferred) Disabilities
  • Experience working in schools, nonprofits, human service organizations
  • Adhere to established federal, state, and local laws and regulations (FERPA, HIPPA, and IDEA)
  • Schedule: 185 day schedule
  • Operating hours of the program, 8:00am-3:00pm
  • Summer hours are also available, but not required
  • Ability to engage with conflict and core tensions
  • Ability to thrive within a team while also being able to work independently
  • Encourages and fosters passion and enthusiasm for the work of the classroom
  • Able to adapt curriculum to meet students' unique needs while keeping it rooted in Massachusetts State Curriculum & Standards
