Job Summary
Conduct direct teaching with students covering functional academics, communication, social interaction, and daily living skills. Implement Individual Education Plan objectives, collect behavioral data, and complete required documentation including incident reports. Assist with personal hygiene, toileting, and meal times while maintaining a safe, orderly environment. Transport students to appointments and recreational activities, overseeing SAMS on outings as needed. Communicate with students, caregivers, and the interdisciplinary team while adhering to universal precautions and blood-borne pathogen standards. Report student illness, injury, or behavioral concerns to appropriate supervisors and the Nurse. Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and SAMA certifications to respond effectively to emergencies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of college or related experience
- Current CPR certification
- Current First Aid certification
- Current SAMA certification
- Current Texas Driver's License
- Current automobile insurance
- Ability to read and write
- Reliability with timeliness and attendance
- Ability to work as an effective and productive member of a team
- Ability to be receptive and responsive to feedback from coworkers and supervisors
- Ability to provide an organized environment for safe and effective teaching and learning

- Ability to perform SAMA techniques with students whose total weight may exceed 200 pounds
- Ability to engage in fine-motor movements such as grasping small objects
- Ability to engage in gross-motor movements such as standing, walking, bending, and squatting
- Ability to engage in the range of motion necessary to work and play with the students
- Ability to engage in the range of motion necessary to assist with personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, eating, and other personal care tasks
- Ability to use the least restrictive methods necessary to maintain the safety of the student, self, and others
- Ability to follow basic principles of applied behavior analysis
- Ability to conduct direct teaching with students, including functional academics, communication, social interaction, community integration, recreational skills, vocational skills, and daily living skills
- Ability to oversee SAMS on outings, as needed when delegated by the RN
- Ability to implement the objectives and procedures identified in the Individual Education Plan, Behavior Intervention Plan, and other educational and behavioral protocols
- Ability to collect educational and behavioral data
- Ability to complete required documentation in a timely manner
- Ability to complete housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe, orderly environment
- Ability to transport students to appointments
- Ability to transport students to recreational activities
- Ability to supervise meal and snack times
- Ability to report hazardous equipment or conditions to the supervisor
- Ability to report repair or maintenance needs to the supervisor
- Ability to report student illness, injury, or medical concerns to the Nurse
- Ability to report any indication of abuse or neglect to the compliance officer/rights protection officer
- Ability to report behavioral occurrences or concerns to the BCBA/Behavior Specialist
- Ability to participate in fire drills
- Ability to assist with personal hygiene and toileting needs
- Ability to use appropriate protective measures (i.e., universal precautions, blood-borne pathogen procedures)
