Job Summary

Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individualized Education Programs through the ARD Committee process. Implement instructional and therapeutic programs while conducting assessments of student learning styles and achievement. Manage classroom environments, supervise personal care and medical needs, and administer discipline using de-escalation techniques. Modify curricula for regular classes, consult resource providers, and oversee instructional aides and volunteers. Maintain open communication with families and colleagues, compile required reports, and comply with federal and district regulations. Work year-round in self-contained, team, or itinerant capacities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
  • Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
  • Effective communication skills
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
  • May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities
  • Control behavior through physical restraint
  • Assist non-ambulatory students
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
