Job Summary
Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans, individualized education plans (IEPs), and assessments tailored to diverse learning styles. Deliver direct instruction in one-on-one, small group, and co-taught classrooms using evidence-based strategies for academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions. Collaborate with general education staff to ensure student inclusion, monitor progress, and maintain accurate records of services provided. Stay current on special education research and participate in professional development while fostering a safe, positive environment. Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Requires Michigan teaching certification with Special Education endorsement, a Bachelor's in Special Education, and experience developing IEPs.
Required Qualifications
- Must have teacher certification and endorsement
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education
- Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in Special Education
- Experience working with students with disabilities, including experience developing and implementing IEPs
- Strong knowledge of best practices and research related to special education and disabilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities
- Regular and predictable attendance
- Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
- Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs
- Stand and walk frequently
- Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat
- Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
- Withstand a moderate noise level
