Job Summary
Special Education Teacher for an Elementary ASD program (K-5) at Burton Elementary. Provide individualized and small-group instruction aligned to Michigan Academic Standards and each student’s IEP; develop and implement instructional strategies to support academic achievement, communication, social-emotional development, independence, and life skills; create a structured, inclusive learning environment; differentiate instruction for students with ASD; utilize evidence-based practices and behavioral intervention strategies; develop and monitor IEPs in collaboration with families and district teams; participate in IEP meetings; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams; implement positive behavior supports; monitor student behavior and progress; communicate regularly with families and staff; prepare lesson plans, assessments, and classroom materials; ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations; engage in professional learning related to autism and instructional best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Special Education endorsement
- Knowledge of child development including language, communication, social-emotional, and cognitive development
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Fingerprinting/background check as required by district safety policy (per School Safety Legislation)
