Job Summary
Plan instruction and adapt curriculum for special education students, functioning as their case manager to oversee IEP compliance. Differentiate academic strategies across grade levels while implementing Positive Behavior Support Plans and teaching organizational and social skills. Utilize assessment data to inform instruction and document progress, integrating technology and demonstrating strong classroom management. Collaborate with parents, teachers, and administrators while participating in curriculum development and professional development. Maintain consistent attendance and adhere to Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations.
Required Qualifications
- State of Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification
- SV, SA, SL, SE, SM, SC, SB, or SK endorsement
- Ability to differentiate academic instruction for diverse student needs across multiple grade levels and content areas
- Ability to assist in the development and implementation of Positive Behavior Support Plans
- Ability to teach academic, organizational, and social strategies to students to foster success in general education
- Knowledge of and accuracy in completing IEPs, present level of student performance, measurable goals and objectives, and documentation of progress toward goals and objectives
- Strong background in using assessment and data to inform instruction and document student progress
- Ability to utilize and integrate technology in instructional practices
- Successful classroom management strategies and skills
- Experience or knowledge in co-teaching
- An appreciation for diversity and a desire to assist all students in becoming cross-culturally competent
- Enthusiastic, flexible, and the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
- Willingness and commitment to participate in curriculum development, school improvement, committees, and professional development
- Willingness to be trained and utilize in CPI, CPR, and First Aid strategies
- Ability to abide by all district policies and procedures and to demonstrate competencies specific in Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations
- Consistent and reliable attendance
- The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a moderate or noisy environment)
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus
- The employee will remain free of any alcohol or drugs throughout his/her employment with the district
