Job Summary
Develop and maintain long-range and daily instructional plans, preparing course objectives aligned with curriculum guidelines. Deliver specially designed instruction based on identified student needs, implementing Individualized Education Programs and Behavior Intervention Plans with fidelity. Facilitate IEP meetings for a caseload of approximately 7-18 students and communicate regularly with parents to support student progress. Use diverse teaching strategies including group work and cooperative techniques while providing leadership to instructional assistants. Maintain comprehensive records for attendance, evaluations, and discipline, ensuring compliance with state special education laws and regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Iowa teaching certificate
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major or endorsement in Special Education
- Proper state certification and licensure for the position
- Conditional License for the Instructional Strategist I K-8 endorsement
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization, including staff, principals, and central administration
- Effective listening skills
- Solid background in assessment
- Ability to interpret data, which may be very complex and varied
- Ability to apply assessment strategies and link assessment data analysis to school improvement, curriculum, and professional development
- Competence in a variety of methods in research and information gathering through technology
- Ability to present and communicate through technology
- Ability to learn and utilize a variety of platforms for data collection and instruction
- Competence in classroom and resource management
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Successful completion of Crisis Prevention Institute Training
