Job Summary
Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individual Education Plans through the ARD Committee process. Implement instructional and therapeutic programs tailored to student learning styles while adapting curricula for special needs. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement and provide personal care, medical care, and feeding as required by IEPs. Manage classroom behavior, administer discipline, and supervise instructional aides. Establish open communication channels with parents and teachers, maintain all required reports and records, and participate in staff development and faculty meetings. This role requires a Bachelor's degree, valid Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsements, and one year of student teaching experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
- Knowledge of how to adapt curriculum and instruction for special needs
- Effective communication skills
- One year student teaching or approved internship
- May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities
- Control behavior through physical restraint
- Assist nonambulatory students
- Lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment
- Maintain emotional control under stress
