Job Summary

Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and adapt lessons to meet the needs of students with a wide range of disabilities. Implement and update IEPs throughout the year while assessing student performance to track progress toward goals. Teach small groups in reading and math to academically at-risk students, including those in general education, 504, and response-to-intervention settings. Collect and analyze student data to make effective decisions, submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance, and communicate progress with parents and families on a weekly basis. Manage behavior systems and facilitate transitions between grades and after graduation. Host tutoring sessions and participate in weekly meetings, grade-level functions, and before/after-school duties. Maintain cooperative relationships with students and families while engaging in continuous professional development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Valid Texas state certification in Special Education
  • Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week
  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment
  • Ability to facilitate Admission, Review and Dismissal meetings
  • Strong family engagement and communication
  • Record of results for students who are academically at risk
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work related tasks
  • Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns to campus- wide initiatives while developing students' character and sense of community in the classroom
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding and respect for the communities in which they identify
  • Oversee the daily work and responsibilities of a Special Education Co-Teacher (para-professional) in the RISE classroom
