Job Summary
Special Education Teacher responsible for evaluating and identifying the special education needs of students using district methods; serve as a case manager by developing and maintaining IEPs, facilitating IEP meetings, and sharing progress with parents; ensure compliance with state and federal rules; maintain confidentiality under FERPA and related laws; provide direct instruction to students with IEP goals; collaborate with general education teachers to plan and implement curriculum and assessments; support paraprofessionals in implementing IEP goals; monitor student progress and communicate with families; advocate for students with disabilities; implement behavioral interventions based on FBA results; maintain safe environments and participate in staff development; collaborate with related service providers and outside agencies as needed; engage in ongoing professional development and stay current with regulations guiding special education; participate in cluster meetings and utilize technology strategies to support students; assist with billing third parties when parents authorize district billing; ensure non-discrimination and equal opportunity in the district; location is Justice Alan Page Elementary, North St. Paul, MN.
Required Qualifications
- Valid MN teaching license in a special education field
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience teaching school-age students
- Ability to work collaboratively and positively with a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge and experience with due process procedures
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with conflict resolution
- Training and experience in behavior management and knowledge of crisis response
- Meet the professional development requirements of the MN READ Act (e.g., LETRS, CORE OL&LA, CAREIALL) or ability to complete such training independently
