Job Summary
Provide students with disabilities appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them achieve educational progress. Develop modified curricula and instructional materials to address each student’s ability level; implement specially designed instruction for students with autism and/or communication disorders; emphasize language/communication and functional behavior skills; collaborate with parents and staff to develop IEPs through ARD/IEP processes; plan and deliver lessons aligned with TEKS and district curricula; utilize positive behavior supports, assistive technology, and data-driven assessment to monitor progress; supervise teaching assistants/volunteers and ensure safety and compliance with Student Code of Conduct; maintain professional communication with families and colleagues; participate in professional development to improve job-related skills; and support students in transitioning to greater independence and self-advocacy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
- Knowledge of ARD/IEP Committee process and IEP goal setting/implementation
- Demonstrated proficiency in creation, implementation and progress monitoring of specially designed instruction
- Ability to individualize instruction to prepare students for participation in Least Restrictive Environments (LRE)
- Must be physically capable of implementing student restraint as a last resort for safety
- Effective communication skills
- Experience planning and supervising instructional staff and volunteers (preparation of lesson plans, collaboration with parents, ARD/IEP attendance)
- Use of technology to support teaching and learning
- Compliance with district/TEA policies and student safety standards
