Job Summary

Assess students' skills to determine needs and develop teaching plans, then adapt lessons and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to meet individual capabilities. Teach and mentor students in class, small groups, and one-on-one while supervising teacher assistants. Implement IEPs, track progress, and update goals throughout the school year. Manage student behavior, including intervening in crisis situations and physically restraining students as necessary. Establish open communication with parents, teachers, and administrators through conferences. Maintain professional relationships, comply with federal and state regulations, and file required reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Special Ed Certified K-12
  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate with required special education endorsements
  • Demonstrated competency in the subject area(s) assigned
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD)
  • Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment
  • May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities
  • Control behavior through physical restraint
  • Assist non ambulatory students
