Job Summary
Special Education Teacher responsible for direct instruction and coordination of services for students with exceptional needs in moderate to severe SDC programs. Develops and write IEPs, serves on IEP teams, assesses present levels, creates standards-based goals, and ensures timely IEP completion. Delivers specialized academic instruction, coordinates IEP implementation with general education staff, mainstreams students to the least restrictive environment, and maintains progress records. Maintains crisis-prevention training, collaborates with parents and teachers, and supports paraprofessionals. Requires a California special education teaching credential, ELL authorization, a Bachelor's degree, and experience with varied disabilities (e.g., Autism, intellectual disabilities, hearing/vision impairments). Maintains professional credentials and participates in required in-service training.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- California special education teaching credential
- ELL authorization
- Preliminary Special Education Credential (minimum)
- Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) - may be provided
- Must meet highly qualified teacher requirements
- Ability to develop and implement IEPs
- Experience with moderate to severe special populations preferred
- Ability to direct paraprofessionals
- Effective collaboration with administrators, staff, parents, and community
