Job Summary
Plan and implement daily lessons in accordance with the approved curriculum while providing direct student instruction and academic assessments. Conduct pre- and post-testing using standardized tests, write and chair Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings including 30-day reviews, and manage student behavior. Collaborate with general education teachers, Special Education Program Specialists, and parents to determine academic plans and identify students with possible disabilities. Maintain documentation of communications, daily activities, and required reports, and travel to other school sites to render services. Work within the school's mission to support the growth and development of a diverse group of students through personalized instructional environments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Valid California credential Specialist with authorization for the Special Education disability and level assigned or intern eligible
- English Learner Authorization or eligible to obtain EL Authorization
- Autism Authorization or eligible to enroll and complete a Commission-approved professional preparation program in the special education specialty area requested, including successful completion of supervised field study
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- Knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS) and related Educational Systems
- Proficient level of skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other technology applications
- Ability to travel up to 5%
- Knowledge of California Teaching Standards
- Knowledge of core academic subject (s) assigned
- Knowledge of high school credits, graduation requirements, interventions, and alternative educational programs, including independent study
- Knowledge and understanding of Independent Study, Personal Learning, and Distance Learning education models
- Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies necessary for effective instruction of all student populations, including students at-risk of academic failure
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups
- Ability to work effectively with parents, staff members, and community representatives in providing a rigorous educational program
- Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear and concise instructions, using academic language, an appropriate delivery level, listening without bias, and providing proper feedback/reinforcement
- Ability to make independent judgments, meet deadlines and maintain accurate student records
- Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolong periods, prepare, or inspect documents and operate office equipment
- Ability to hear average or typical conversations and receive ordinary information
- Ability to be understood in face-to-face communication, in person or virtually, to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone or computer
- Ability to read, write, understand, interpret, and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance
