Job Summary
Special Education Teacher for Elementary - 0.40 FTE provides an appropriate educational program for students with special needs, may act as a case manager for a group of students, co-teach in a regular education department, teach substantially separate subject area classes, and support student acquisition of skills related to IEP goals. Maintains open communication with parents, regular education teachers, counselors, and contributes to the development of the Special Education Department, along with fulfilling other responsibilities as a member of the school community. Responsibilities include teaching targeted skills, conducting IEP meetings and paperwork, monitoring progress and revising IEPs, co-teaching or delivering substantially separate instruction, preparing students for post-high school life, and regular attendance at departmental and school-wide meetings. Requires DESE licensure and ability to work in a school/classroom environment; physical duties include assisting with student behavioral needs and moving furniture as needed. Regular exposure to a moderate-noise classroom environment and student safety considerations.
Required Qualifications
- Requisite licensure as defined by the DESE
- Experience implementing all parts of the IEP process
- Knowledge of a wide range of disabilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to use technology effectively
- Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues
- Believes in helping all students achieve their potential, including minority and low socio-economic students
