Job Summary

Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned. Responsibilities include collaborating with students, parents, and staff to develop IEPs through the ARD process, implementing instructional or therapeutic programs, planning differentiated lessons, modifying regular curricula as needed, participating in ARD meetings, assessing student learning styles, presenting subject matter per IEP guidelines, employing diverse instructional techniques, supervising teacher aides and volunteers, and using technology in teaching. Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a valid Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsements; at least one year of student teaching or approved internship; strong knowledge of ARD/IEP processes, classroom management, communication with parents and colleagues, and compliance with regulations.
