Job Summary
Special Education Teacher responsible for delivering instruction to students with special needs in a classroom or resource setting, developing individualized lesson plans aligned to curriculum goals, assessing student progress, collaborating with faculty, staff, parents, and administration, and maintaining a structured, behaviorally supportive learning environment. Duties include planning and delivering lessons, coordinating with colleagues on eligibility for services, preparing materials, conducting progress reports, engaging in behavior management using techniques such as positive reinforcement and behavior modification, and supporting students with multiple disabilities within an Illinois educational framework. Requires an elementary school certificate K-9 and a Learning Behavior Specialist I endorsement, along with additional endorsements in areas such as serious emotional disturbance, autism, cognitive disability, orthopedic impairment, or other health impairment, and strong communication skills.
Required Qualifications
- Hold an elementary school certificate K-9 from the State of Illinois or the equivalent certification, which will qualify the teacher for an Illinois teaching certificate.
- Hold a Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBSI) endorsement.
- Hold a teaching certificate or endorsement in one of the following areas; serious emotional disturbance, autism, cognitive disability, orthopedic impairment, traumatic brain injury, and other health impairment.
- Must have excellent Oral and Written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators and the general public.
- Must be detailed oriented.
