Job Summary
Special Education Teacher in Kansas City, KS with focus on autism/STEPS; responsible for advocating for students with special needs, planning instructional programs including IEPs, serving as liaison between school and community, conducting annual reviews and IEP-related meetings, developing and maintaining IEPs per federal/state/local guidelines, maintaining communication with mainstream teachers and service providers, and performing duties to support positive student outcomes. Requires Kansas certification eligibility, strong collaboration and communication skills, classroom management, experience with diagnostic testing for annual reviews and eligibility staffings, and ability to implement behavioral intervention plans. 186-day academic calendar; exempt status.
Required Qualifications
- Hold or be eligible for Kansas certification appropriate for the position
- Must be tolerant and understanding of students with special needs
- Excellent interpersonal skills, professional judgment, oral and written communication
- Be efficient and organized in “paper management”
- Demonstrate good judgment, adaptability and flexibility
- Respect confidentiality
- Ability to read and analyze general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, general curriculum and learning theories, correspondence, and protocols
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community
